Land Art

Land art is a fun and creative activity that can be enjoyed by everyone. It can be intricate and absorbing, or quick and playful - and there is no right or wrong way to do it.
.
The Land Art movement began in the 1960s as a rejection of the commercialisation of art - taking it outside of galleries and traditional materials. It explores the natural cycles - with the use of natural materials rendering it temporary and ephemeral.
Using natural materials (think: stones, shells, sand, leaves, petals, twigs, fir cones etc), the idea is to create art or sculpture in a natural setting. This could be patterns, a portrait, shapes, a tower of balanced stones - the only limits are your imagination! If you’d like some really incredible inspiration, why not check out the work of Andy Goldsworthy and James Brunt - I challenge you not to be in awe...
.
Next time you go for a walk with the kids, pause a while (snack time anyone?) and try your hand at creating some original, natural, land art using what you can find around you - we bet you'll have loads of fun!
